Description:

Marlon Brando, one of the greatest actors of the last half century, and some say THE greatest, portrayed Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. In the film, he is a highly decorated officer who went mad, killed many, and shacked up in Cambodia, miles from where the action was in Vietnam. Martin Sheen plays Capt.Willard who is sent to kill him. Sheen's trip up river to find him occupies most of the film. Brando is only in it for the last 45 mins or so. This is his final monologue in the film, describing "The Horror". Simply brilliant acting. His expressions are as sharp as can be. Allegedly, he was told he could improvise the description of the story he tells Willard of what he had seen at the camp they had to go for innoculation of children, so, thats pretty wild for him to make up what he did as he went along. Truly a great actor of our time.

Excellent scene, for all the shit Brando put Coppola through, it all works out in the end. I heard that most of this was improv so hats off to the Godfather.

One of the best moments ever on film. Brando was worth the off camera behavior.

We need more s--t like this in the movies. Seriously, that is f--king nuts. Even if you don't agree with what Kurtz (and possibly Coppola) are saying here, you can't take your eyes away...and you know there's passion there. This is not Scary Movie 4.

Probably the best ever at suspending disbelief. He makes you forget its a movie. He was a great story teller. He made the method popular. And look at the method actors who followed. James Dean, Pacino, Deniro, etc.

Interesting note about this scene. Whenever Brando looks upwards it's because he has forgotten his line and he made them write them on large billboards for him to read.

feels like brando actually felt it. like it doesn't even feel like a movie once you hit this spot. this speech just stops time. it's beautiful, but also very scary.

Brando didn't read the book "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad, told Coppola he had. He hadn't memorized the script; he showed up for the shooting 60 pounds overweight. Brando was worth the agony, as Coppola would agree. The shoot took 2 years, the sets were wiped out by a monsoon in the Phillipines, and Martin Sheen had a heart attack. see Elaine Coppola's documentary "Hearts of Darkness" on the making of the film.

America isn't doing what is NECCESSARY. The thing nobody in high places wants to admit is, the acting by Brando represents TRUTH NOT INSANITY. It's even worse today. DIPLOMACY DOES NOT EXIST WHERE OUR TROOPS HAVE BEEN SENT. HELL DOESNT COMPROMISE. America needs to grow some BALLS.

Martin have you taken a k of c oath to kill Charlie Marvill? "Come out of her, my people" -- the woman is the city on 7 hills, who rules the kings of the earth. Revelation 17:9,18; 18:4

EGarrett01: "This is not Scary Movie 4." No, it isn't. The Hollywood idiots couldn't make a film like this today. They are all worried about their f-ing mortgages and couldn't be bothered to put any real passion into making a film. They all suck c*ck and live for their money and nothng else. They are worthless.
