If you go to the Wiki page about the the sacking of the Whitlam govt, and read the list of bills he brought in and wanted to bring in. Then and only then hold forth about Gough, he was trying to bring Oz into the 20th century, so many rights entitlements and important points were his doing. Sod the UK and the US, Australia is in Asia, diplomatic relations with China? Of course, even Nixon recognised the importance of that.

this is to yougasm,-you mean the same Menzies that was quoted as saying "it is better for australians to starve than for us not to repay our debts to britain" during ww2? and it is true, the economy was growing at around 2.7% in 1975,britains unemployment was around 12% and its inflation was near 30%,puts thing in perspective.

Stagnation under tired old Menzies as under tired old Howard .... vital significant leadership under Gough ... and hopefully Kevin Rudd ( falls too much into the opinion poll driven Howard rut as yet ...hope he grows in to the role and follows Whitlam's example!!!) Kev Krusher
