Description:

Hello, it's Thursday the 12 day of July 2007. I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update. "Harry Potter" has worked his magic again. The fifth film, "Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix" brought in an estimated 12 million dollars in U.S. ticket sales from its Wednesday midnight screenings. The film's opening set a new U.S. record for a Wednesday opening...beating out the current leader "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King." That film only took 8 million for its mid-week premiere. Pop Star Jessica Simpson reportedly spent her 27th birthday trying to avoid the cameras. Simpson originally planned to celebrate at a beach house in southern California Tuesday...but ended up back at her parent's house. The party started on the sand but when a mass of paparazzi arrived, Simpson opted for a more intimate setting. One source told People magazine despite the photographers, the singer had a great birthday. Nicole Richie's DUI trial is being postponed again. A Los Angeles Judge granted a request from Richie's lawyer on Wednesday, asking him to delay the trail until August 16. Her attorney says a compelling defense witness won't be able to make it to court until then. The witness is expected to challenge the prosecution's drug recognition official. Last year, Richie was arrested when she was spotted driving the wrong way on the highway. One British photographer has been found guilty of assault against Heather Mills. The man allegedly grabbed Mills' shoulder in an attempt to get a better photo of her. Mills says she hopes the conviction would send a message to paparazzi to leave her alone. The photographer will appear in court for sentencing on August 16. Actress Claire Danes is making her Broadway debut. She'll play Eliza Doolittle in a revival of the play "Pygmalion." Jefferson Mays will join Danes on stage as Henry Higgins. The show will open in New York on October 18th. Danes is currently in the film "Evening" and is also known for her roles in "Little Women" and "William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet." She's also appeared in some off-Broadway plays. That's all for now. Check out upi.com for all the days news and updates. Thanks for watching.
