Dr. Grace Wyngaard and a team of other scientists have found species of plankton that do not take thousands or millions of years to evolve into new species. In fact, they do so in the laboratory within several generations. These new species cannot mate and reproduce with the original species, so by all definitions, they are indeed, new.
