Amazing how much he got right. I sent a letter to Obermann suggesting that he air this speech to the American public, and it be played out loud to ALL of the Congress. There are many words of wisdom here. Could I suggest a modification to this presentation that might make even more of an impact...a flowing banner of text across the screen during the speech, but not the entire text. Rather just some of the excerpts, as they are so relevant to the situations we find ourselves in today

We actually got into it at the same time we got into Korea.During the Truman years. We call bothe Korea and Vietnam "wars".We went at the behest of the UN,who called Korea and Vietnam "peace-keeping effort police actions.

Twice,in public speeches, and once,to JFK as they traded offices,Ike said,"Vietnam is the wrong war,in the wrong place, for all the wrong reasons." And,as a man of war,he was one to know.Once Ike was out, forces worked to get us deeper and deeper into that war. After JFK was dead, they got exactly what they wanted.

That's a good point. People have marveled at how prescient Ike was in this address. The fact is, he knew about the emerging military-industrial complex because he worked with them: Alan Dulles, Prescott Bush, and even George H. W. Bush. Ron Paul's point was that the Republicans have won on anti-war platforms. They have not always been true to their promises. The worst offender was George W. Bush.

Ron Paul made a questionable point in the recent debate that Republicans have a traditionally non-interventionist foreign policy. Granted, Eisenhower pulled troops out of Korea. But it was under his administration that the CIA began its "covert operations", first by deposing Mossadeq in Iran and then Arbenz in Guatemala, both democratically elected leaders. This was not a non-interventionist foreign policy.
